Tip of the month
Give your leadership style a makeover
Is your leadership approach out of style and ready for a makeover?Without realizing it, our work environments, where we must deal with different personalities and challenges, cause us to grow and adapt in our roles as leaders.
You may have started out as a nurse manager who felt fully competent in leadership, management, and coaching. But sometimes we need to check in for a self-evaluation to ensure that we are still delivering a style of leadership that represents our beliefs and values.
Interested in discovering your leadership style? Visit http://psychology.about.com/library/quiz/blleadershipquiz.htm and take the short quiz titled “What’s Your Leadership Style?” Not only will the questions prompt reminders of leadership approaches that are successful in nursing, but in about 10 minutes, you can identify behavior styles that are outdated and need to be tossed aside.
The results of your quiz will place you in one of the following categories:
- Authoritarian leadership
- Participative leadership
- Delegative leadership
In addition, you will notice that you need aspects of each of these styles bundled together to accomplish your goals as a leader. This is one style makeover that will not affect your budget, but will impact your life and satisfaction within your career choice.
