Nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital and Regional Medical Center in San Jose held an informational picket line earlier this week over the high turnover rate at both hospitals.
Nurses at the hospitals said they are overworked and understaffed due to a 20% turnover rate from February 2018 to February 2019. The median turnover rate for hospitals in California is closer to 3%. The picketing nurse said investment in nurse staffing will improve the retention rate of experienced nurses and will ultimately improve patient care.
According to a spokesperson for Good Samaritan Hospital, the picketing did not impact hospital operations at either facility.
